Students named Office of Intercultural Education Fellows at Bates College
The fellows program, currently in its first year at the college, is intended to offer needed support to the student body. Fellows went through a rigorous application process in the spring to qualify for their fall appointment, and each of them have a specialty in which they are especially suited to answer questions and offer support for their fellow students.

Bates students awarded Fulbright grants
The following Bates students have been awarded Fulbright grants to support an academic year of research or service abroad. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is funded primarily by the U.S. Department of State and sends some 1,500 citizens abroad each year to more than 155 countries. With 28 graduates having received Fulbrights in the past three years, Bates is a "top producer" of Fulbright U.S. Student grants, ranking among the top 10 U.S. bachelor's degree colleges.

Made possible through the generous bequest of Charles F. Phillips, the fourth president of Bates, and his wife, Evelyn M. Phillips, Phillips Student Fellowships provide Bates students with an immersive experience in another culture, as well as opportunities for extensive research, service learning, volunteer work or career exploration. The grants are awarded by Bates through a highly competitive application process.
