Lewiston, ME (02/28/2019) — Feb 27, 2019

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Bates women's swim team will send nine student-athletes to compete in the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships, to be held March 20-23 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C. The Bobcats match the 2016 program record of nine women competing at NCAAs.

Sophomore Caroline Apathy (Devon, Pa.) is the No. 1 seed in the 100-yard butterfly, based on her 54.54-second title-winning race at the NESCAC Championships. Apathy is also seeded 36th in the 100-yard freestyle (51.72) 53rd in the 50 freestyle (24.25 seconds).

Junior Emmy Daigle (Portland, Ore.) will swim the 100-yard breaststroke as the 26th seed, based on her season-best time of 1:04.73.

Senior Lucy Faust (Piedmont, Calif.), a veteran of two NCAA Championship meets, will compete in the 1,650-yard freestyle as the 29th seed, based on her time of 17:30.01.

But the Bobcats will again make their biggest impact at NCAAs in the relay events:

Bates is the ninth-seeded team in the 200-yard medley relay, based on the third-place time of 1:43.87 at the NESCAC Championships. The team comprises eight-time All-American junior Janika Ho (Los Angeles, Calif.) in the backstroke, Apathy in the fly, Daigle in the breast and first-year Suzy Ryckman (Riverside, Conn.) in the freestyle.

Bates is also the 14th seed in the 400 medley relay (3:49.25), swum by Ho, Apathy, Daigle and first-year Isabel Mohammadi-Hall (Saratoga, Calif.).

Bates is the 14th seed in the 400 freestyle relay (3:27.99), swum by Apathy, Faust, Ho and Ryckman.

Bates is the 15th seed in the 800 freestyle relay (7:34.73), swum by sophomore Erin Bucki (Eagan, Minn.), Faust, first-year Maya Reynoso Williams (Somerville, Mass.) and first-year Caroline Sweeney (New Canaan, Conn.).

The Bobcats are also qualified as the 22nd seed in the 200 freestyle relay.
