Ipswich grad named NESCAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week

Lewiston, ME (03/05/2019) — Mar 04, 2019

HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates College senior goalkeeper Eliza Statile of Ipswich, Mass., was named NESCAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week on Monday, after her heroic performance in the Bobcats' 11-10 overtime win at Middlebury on Saturday.

Statile (Ipswich, Mass.) made a career-high 20 saves and added nine ground balls in Bates' stunning upset of the then-No. 2 ranked Panthers. Three of those saves came in the final 1:24 of regulation, allowing the Bobcats to score the game-tying goal and force overtime, completing their comeback from a 9-5 deficit.

The team co-captain also made five saves in the first half of Bates' 16-3 win at Wheaton (Mass.) on Wednesday, and recorded a save percentage of .694 for the week.

It is Statile's first college lacrosse award, and she is Bates' first NESCAC Player of the Week since her predecessor in Bates' net, Hannah Jeffrey, won the award on March 7, 2016.

The win helped vault the Bobcats (3-0) to the No. 16 ranking in this week's IWLCA Division III national Top 25 poll. The Bobcats' next game is at Babson, Wednesday at 5pm.
