HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates junior Nolan Collins, of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., was named the first NESCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week of the 2019 season, announced Monday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference.

Collins (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) helped Bates defeat Salem State 11-0 on Saturday in Northborough, Mass. The righthander tossed six shutout innings, allowing the Vikings only two hits and two walks while striking out six batters. Bates went on to defeat Nichols College later Saturday for the Bobcats' (3-4) third win in a row.

Collins boasts a 1-0 record and 1.50 earned run average over 12.0 innings and two appearances in the young season. He emerged as the staff ace in 2018, going 3-2 with a 2.75 ERA in 52.1 innings.

Collins is Bates' first NESCAC Pitcher of the Week since Connor Speed won the award on April 11, 2016.
