Lewiston, ME (05/07/2019) — May 06, 2019
HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates senior Justin Foley was named NESCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week on Monday, after his shutout at Bowdoin on Saturday helped the Bobcats clinch a NESCAC playoff berth.
Foley (Lynnfield, Mass.) threw his second straight 7-inning shutout on Saturday, limiting the Polar Bears to four hits and two walks while striking out five batters. The win raised Foley's record to 6-2 and lowered his earned-run average to 3.55.
In his previous outing on April 28, Foley shut out Colby on four hits in seven innings with six strikeouts.
This is the Bates baseball team's fourth NESCAC honor of the season. Junior Nolan Collins (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) has twice been named NESCAC Pitcher of the Week, on March 11 and on April 22, and first-year Antonio Jareno (Marietta, Ga.) was named NESCAC Player of the Week on April 8.
In addition to his four years on the Bates baseball team, Foley was the punter on the Bates football team for four years, once winning NESCAC Special Teams Player of the Week honors and also garnering All-NESCAC honors as a sophomore.
The Bobcats (19-14) will play in the double-elimination, four-team NESCAC Championship tournament this weekend at Colby College. The Bobcats face Williams (23-9) in Game 1 Friday at 2:30pm.
