Samreen Fatima named to fall 2013 dean's list at Bates

2014 May 29

Samreen Fatima was named to the dean's list at Bates during the first semester of the 2013-2014 academic year -- a distinction earned by students whose cumulative grade point average is 3.71 or higher.

"Because we are an intellectually rigorous college that values our students' commitment to hard work, we are deeply proud of our dean's list honorees," said Matthew R. Auer, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty at Bates. "They have earned distinction by excelling in critical thinking, clear reasoning and articulate writing -- proficiencies at the heart of a Bates education."

Fatima, the daughter of Aliya R. Hasan of Karachi, Pakistan, is a 2012 graduate of United World College Maastricht. She is majoring in economics at Bates.

Located in Lewiston, Maine, Bates is internationally recognized as a leading college of the liberal arts, attracting 2,000 students from across the U.S. and around the world. Since 1855, Bates has been dedicated to educating the whole person through creative and rigorous scholarship in a collaborative residential community. With a commitment to affordability, Bates has always admitted students without regard to gender, race, religion or national origin. Cultivating intellectual discovery and informed civic action, Bates prepares leaders sustained by a love of learning and zeal for responsible stewardship of the wider world.
