Paul-Alexis Fourgous elected to serve as vice president of clubs at Bates

2014 Feb 14

Paul-Alexis Fourgous, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jean-Michel Fourgous of Elancourt, France, recently won his Bates College Student Government election campaign to serve as vice president of clubs.

Fourgous has oversight authority for all student clubs at Bates and for all changes to club constitutions. In addition to assisting the president of Bates College Student Government in his or her duties, Fourgous chairs the Organizational Review Board, the direct link between the college's Representative Assembly and all student clubs at Bates.

"Students elected to Bates College Student Government leadership positions play a vital role in defining the co- and extracurricular experience for their peers," said Keith Tannenbaum, assistant dean of students and adviser to the Bates College Student Government. "The skills they learn and demonstrate in their leadership roles -- everything from problem solving and consensus building, to program development and budget management -- serve them well in their endeavors after graduation."

A dean's list honoree, Fourgous has served as a member of the President's Advisory Committee at Bates for three years. He also has served as a French tutor at Bates and as a teacher assistant in nearby Auburn Middle School through a program sponsored by the college's Department of French and the World Speaks French Association.

Fourgous, who is majoring in economics and mathematics at Bates, is a 2011 graduate of Lycee Saint-Francois d'Assise in Montigny le Bretonneux, France.
