2015 Oct 8

Nancy Tran, the daughter of Nu To Tran of Seattle, Wash., was recently named a student fellow in the Office of Intercultural Education at Bates College, located in Lewiston, Maine.

Tran and her OIE colleagues promote academic excellence and build community for all students with a particular focus on students from underrepresented populations. OIE Fellows work closely with staff to design and implement workshops and programs in the following areas: first-generation-to-college experience, academic success, cultural events, social events, community building and alumni engagement.

OIE Fellows were selected through a rigorous application process in spring 2015 to qualify for their fall appointment.

Tran is a 2012 graduate of Garfield High School. She is majoring in biological chemistry at Bates.

Bates is internationally recognized as a leading college of the liberal arts, attracting 2,000 students from across the U.S. and around the world. Since 1855, Bates has been dedicated to educating the whole person through creative and rigorous scholarship in a collaborative residential community.
