Max Silverman recognized as Newman Civic Fellow for 2015

2015 Apr 15

Max Silverman, a junior at Bates College, has been named a 2015 Newman Civic Fellow by the Campus Compact in recognition of his outstanding community engagement. Silverman, a 2012 graduate of the Masters School, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stuart J. Silverman of Tarrytown, New York. He majors in interdisciplinary studies at Bates.

The Campus Compact, a national coalition of nearly 1,100 college and university presidents, awards the fellowship to promising student leaders who have demonstrated an investment in their community through their service, research and advocacy. Silverman's work has focused on mental health activism and fighting the stigmatization of mental illness.

"Max's leadership around mental illness has been amazing and has helped create a culture shift among students at Bates," notes Darby Ray, Director of Bates' Harward Center for Community Partnerships.
