Gambier native awarded prestigious Watson Fellowship

Caroline Caldwell, a Bates College graduate and Gambier, Ohio native, has been awarded a 2015-16 Watson Fellowship to support a year of travel and independent research in Australia, Finland and Tristan da Cunha.

Caldwell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David B. Caldwell of Gambier, Ohio, is a 2011 graduate of Mount Vernon High School. An environmental studies major, Caldwell is a member of Bates' Class of 2015.

Watson awardees come from select private liberal arts colleges and universities across the United States. From nearly 700 candidates, 150 finalists were nominated to compete on the national level from which 50 Fellows were selected. Fellows will receive $30,000 for travel, college loan assistance as applicable, and an insurance allowance.
