Bates student Jillian Conway named to fall 2014 NESCAC All-Sportsmanship Team

2014 Dec 10

Bates College student Jillian Conway, senior captain of the field hockey team, has been named to the fall 2014 All-Sportsmanship Team by the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Conway is a repeat NESCAC All-Sportsmanship selection from 2011, her rookie season.

The NESCAC All-Sportsmanship Team is comprised of one student athlete from each institution for each sport, and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team for their positive contributions to sportsmanship. The student-athlete selected must be in good academic standing and a member of the team at the conclusion of the season in order to be eligible for selection.

"The Bates Department of Athletics mission statement cites fostering the principles of fair play, good sportsmanship and ethical conduct among its central tenets," said Kevin McHugh, director of athletics at Bates. "Thus it is always gratifying to recognize those Bates student-athletes who are selected for the conference's All-Sportsmanship award."

Conway, a 2011 graduate of The Governor's Academy, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul J. Conway of Andover, Massachusetts. She is majoring in psychology at Bates.

Located in Lewiston, Maine, Bates is internationally recognized as a leading college of the liberal arts, attracting 2,000 students from across the U.S. and around the world.
