Bates graduate Matthew Summers awarded a Fulbright grant

Bates College graduate and Short Hills, New Jersey native, Matthew Summers, has been awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to support an academic year abroad in South Africa.

Summers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward D. Summers of Short Hills, New Jersey, is a 2011 graduate of Millburn High School. At Bates, Summers majored in economics.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is funded primarily by the U.S. Department of State and sends some 1,500 citizens abroad each year to more than 155 countries. With 45 graduates having received Fulbrights in the past four years, Bates is a "top producer" of Fulbright U.S. Student grants, ranking among the top 10 U.S. bachelor's degree colleges.
