Alyssa Morgosh elected president of Bates College Student Government

2014 Feb 14

Alyssa Morgosh, the daughter of Lisa M. Frazee of Oceanside, Calif., recently was elected president of Bates College Student Government.

As president, Morgosh chairs the college's Executive Council, which has the authority to write the Bates College Student Government budget, to make appointments to student-faculty and student committees, and to act as liaison between the student body, student clubs and the Representative Assembly.

"Students elected to Bates College Student Government leadership positions play a vital role in defining the co- and extracurricular experience for their peers," said Keith Tannenbaum, assistant dean of students and student government adviser. "The skills they learn and demonstrate in their leadership roles -- everything from problem solving and consensus building, to program development and budget management -- serve them well in their endeavors after graduation."

Morgosh is a dean's list honoree and has been named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference All-Academic Team and the Bates Scholar-Athlete Academic Honor Roll. She is president of Bates Christian Fellowship, a goalie on the women's soccer team, a thrower on the women's indoor and outdoor track and field teams, and a staff writer for The Bates Student. She has served as a junior adviser to 28 first-year students at Bates and now serves as a resident coordinator in Wentworth Adams Hall. Prior to being president of Bates College Student Government, she was a member of the student Representative Assembly and the Executive Council, serving as vice president of student committees. She is student co-chair of the Student Conduct Appeals Committee and has served as co-director of the Entering Student Orientation program at Bates.

Morgosh, who is majoring in chemistry and psychology with a minor in Spanish at Bates, is a 2011 graduate of Bishops School in La Jolla, Calif.

Located in Lewiston, Maine, Bates is internationally recognized as a leading college of the liberal arts, attracting 2,000 students from across the U.S. and around the world.
