2016 Mar 17

Alexandra Coppola, a member of the women's basketball team at Bates College, received New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) All-Academic and All-Sportsmanship distinctions for the winter 2016 season.

The All-Sportsmanship Team is composed of one student athlete from each college for each sport, and is selected by the players and coaches from that school's team for their positive contributions to sportsmanship. To receive All-Academic honors, an athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.35.

Coppola, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Shane E. Coppola of Tarrytown, N.Y., is a 2013 graduate of the Hackley School. She is majoring in politics at Bates.

Bates is internationally recognized as a leading college of the liberal arts, attracting 2,000 students from across the U.S. and around the world. Since 1855, Bates has been dedicated to educating the whole person through creative and rigorous scholarship in a collaborative residential community.

With a commitment to affordability, Bates has always admitted students without regard to gender, race, religion or national origin. Cultivating intellectual discovery and informed civic action, Bates prepares leaders sustained by a love of learning and zeal for responsible stewardship of the wider world.
